Sold for $205. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

GALATIA or CAPPADOCIA, Uncertain mint. Domitian. As Caesar, AD 69-81. Æ (18mm, 4.36 g, 7h). M. Hirrius Fronto Neratius Pansa, legatus Augusti. Struck AD 77/8-79/80. Laureate head right / [ЄΠI]/ ΠANCA/ ΠPЄBЄYTOY in three lines. RPC 1689 (this coin), otherwise unpublished. VF, brown patina, areas of flat strike, die break on reverse. Apparently unique.

From the J.S. Wagner Collection.

A logical guess for the place of minting would be Caesarea, the principal mint in the region, where similar coins carrying this legend were struck under Titus. The authors of RPC reject this attribution, however, based on the absence of a date and the metal composition.
