Mother of pearl icon. Byzantine (or Byzantine-influenced), 12th-14th centuries AD. Incised design within arched frame depicting the
Anastasis (Resurrection): nimbate Christ advancing slightly left, extending right hand and holding cross in left. To lower left, half-length figure of angel left. Height: 4.9cm. Some surface damage and earthen deposits.
In general appearance the piece appears to be Byzantine, but the semi-nude Christ, rare for this scene in the east, and the Latin cross suggest a western provenance.
