Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ (34mm, 25.95 g, 6h). Koinon of Bithynia (Nicomedia?) mint. AYT • KAIC TPAI • AΔPIANOC CЄB, laureate head right / KOI NON across field, BЄIΘYNIAC in exergue, octastyle temple façade set on podium of three steps, pellet in field between central columns; in pediment, ornate entablature consisting of metopes, each with central pellet; above, male figure standing facing, holding phiale over lighted altar and holding scepter, pellet to left and right; aphlasta as acroteria. RG 38; cf. SNG von Aulock 284; SNG Copenhagen 324 var. (bust type); BMC 12 var. (no pellets flanking figure in pediment). Near EF, natural river patina. Impressive portrait.
