Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ Sestertius (33mm, 27.26 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck AD 211. L SEPT SEVE RVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right / VICT BRIT P M TR P XIX COS III P P, S C in exergue, two Victories, winged and draped, standing vis-à-vis, holding round shield between them and fixing it on palm tree, at base of which are two seated captives. RIC IV 808 var. (BRIT at end of obv. legend); Banti 165; SCBC -; BMCRE 261A var. (same); Cohen 723. Good VF, olive green patina, small area of red behind neck, hairline flan crack, minor smoothing. Very rare–the note in RIC IV 808, p. 201, even questioned whether Cohen 723, of this variety, was in error.
