Unpublished Thessalonica Mint Siliqua

246, Lot: 489. Estimate $100.
Sold for $700. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

Theodosius I. AD 379-395. AR Siliqua (18mm, 2.06 g, 5h). Thessalonica mint. Struck AD 379-383. Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / VOT/ V/ MVL/ X in four lines within wreath; TES. RIC IX -; RSC -. Near EF, flan crack. Apparently unique.

No VOT V siliqua are recorded for Theodosius from Thessalonica. They are recorded from Trier, Siscia and Constantinople so it would not be totally unexpected for there also to be this issue from Thessalonica.
