Justinian I. 527-565. Æ Decanummium (13mm, 1.43 g). Salona(?) mint. Struck circa AD 552-560/5. Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / Large I. DOC 361; MIBE 251; SB 332. Near Fine, rough brown surfaces.
A peculiar and poorly understood series, these consistently underweight coins tend to be found around the territory of ancient Salona (modern Split in Croatia). Hahn (MIBE p. 73) tentatively suggests that they may have been army tokens.
