THESSALY, Larissa. First half of the 4th century BC. Dichalkon (Bronze, 17mm, 4.45 g 9). Head of the nymph Larissa to left, wearing pendant earring and plain necklace.
Rev. ΛΑΡ - ΙΣ Laureate bust of Asklepios to right with snake rising before him. Rogers 305. SNG Copenhagen 146. Very rare. Attractive dark brown patina and of excellent style. Extremely fine.
The bronze coinage of Larissa has not been worked out as yet, but it seems likely that it follows the silver in form, with profile heads of Larissa coming before the facing ones.
