THESSALY, Meliboia. Circa 352-344 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 13mm, 1.92 g 3). Head of the nymph Meliboeia to right, her hair tied in a bun at the back and wearing an earring; behind neck, Λ.
Rev. ΜΕ - ΛΙ Bunch of grapes. Rogers 392 var. Extremely rare with this letter on obverse. A lovely coin with a fine, dark brown patina. Extremely fine.
The letter on the obverse of this coin is almost certainly the initial of the engraver; the quality of the head, which is really a little masterpiece, is particularly fine, reminiscent of issues from Syracuse.
