Silver ring insert. Roman, circa 300 AD. Intaglio scene of the Binding of Isaac: Abraham about to sacrifice his son Isaac before a lit altar but, halted by divine intervention, represented by the manus Dei between two stars, he turns his head toward a ram caught in a bush which will be sacrificed in substitute. Diameter: 12mm. Lightly toned, a few minor scratches. A wonderful Biblical motif.
