CILICIA, Irenopolis-Neronias. Valerian I. AD 253-260. Æ 8 Assaria (27mm, 16.03 g, 7h). Dated CY 204 (AD 255/6). Radiate and cuirassed bust right / IPHNOΠO ΛITωN Γ, Hygeia standing right, feeding serpent, facing Aesculepius standing left, leaning on serpent staff; Δ-C(retrograde) (date) across field, H (mark of value) in exergue. Karbach 170; SNG Pfälzer 667 (same dies). Good VF, tan patina, with some green, minor obverse die shift. Three of this variety known to Karbach at the time of his publication.
From Group CEM.
The reverse die, originally engraved with a date of year 203, was reused the following year by simply placing the new date in the field. Interestingly, no effort was made to remove the Γ.
