CILICIA, Tarsus. Caracalla. AD 198-217. Æ (31mm, 16.33 g, 6h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Ciliarch crown decorated with eleven imperial heads and ΓB. SNG France -; SNG Levante 1033 (this coin). Good VF, dark green patina, light roughness on obverse. Wonderful preservation of the busts on the crown.

The Ciliarch or Cilicarch was the name for the High Priest of Cilicia who presided over provincial temples dedicated to certain emperors. The different busts which decorate the crown represent the various emperors who were honored at each respective temple.
