Bronze sheet ring. Luristan, late 2nd-early 1st millenium BC. Penannular in form. Made from a sheet of bronze, its width tapering at point where the two ends meet. Face with intaglio design of two jackals(?) devouring prey.
Ring size: British U, US 10¼; weight: 5.82g. Even brown patina.
Such “sheet rings” are generally thought to date from circa 1200-1000 BC, although this is hardly secure. See Oscar White Muscarella, Bronze and Iron: Ancient Near Eastern Artifacts in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, 1988), no. 210 for a similar type and discussion of the dating.
