ΣVRΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ Diademed head of Arethusa to right, her hair tied in a krobylos; around, four dolphins swimming to right. Boehringer 76. Dewing 696. Jameson 747. Randazzo 246. SNG ANS 19 (all same dies). Rare. Toned and of lovely late Archaic style. Nearly extremely fine.

This coin bears one of the finer heads of Arethusa to appear in the years before the Demarteion issue and was produced soon after Gelon I captured Syracuse.
