THESSALY, Skotussa. Circa 394-367 BC. Trihemiobol (Silver, 1.43 g 6). Head of bearded Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress.
Rev. Σ ΚΟ Forepart of bridled horse to right, his head slightly lowered; all within shallow incuse. SNG Copenhagen 252. A rare denomination. Surfaces slightly rough,
otherwise, good very fine.
From an old English collection.
The wonderful head of Herakles on this coin, with the very close fitting, cap-like lion skin headdress, is quite reminiscent of the earlier 5th century type used by the Thessalian League (as BCD 1006).
