Sold for $95. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

BITHYNIA, Kios. 3rd century BC. Æ (14mm, 2.82 g, 12h). Head of Mithras right, wearing a laureate tiara / Kantharos with two grape vines within wreath of grain. SNG Copenhagen 382 var.; SNG von Aulock 7003-4 var. VF, dark green patina. Scarce.

This coin shows no trace of an ethnic, as do the specimens cited above. Additionally, SNG Copenhagen 382 and SNG von Aulock 7004 weigh 1.71 g and 1.50 g, respectively, and at first appear to be a separate denomination from SNG von Aulock 7003 (weighing 3.34 g and of a similar, larger diameter). The employment of the same types, however, suggests otherwise. The present specimen and that formerly in the von Aulock collection perhaps date to an earlier phase of the issue, prior to an official authorization of the reduction of size and weight.
