INDIA, Kushan Empire. Uncertain. 4th century AD. Æ Drachm (15mm, 3.27 g, 6h). Tamgha or Brahmi monogram / Tamgha. Zeno 100111 = Classical Numismatic Group Electronic Auction 257, lot 180; otherwise unpublished in the standard references. VF, green patina, numerous cleaning scratches. Extremely rare.

This piece is clearly related to the bronze issue of a king Vasudeva (MK 1020) which has on the obverse Vasu in Brahmi. The obverse of the current coin surely marks the issuing authority as well, although the identity of that issuer is uncertain. As the obverse design closely resembles certain Hunnic tamghas, this coin may perhaps be better placed among the earliest Hunnic issues.
