(499.1) THESSALY, Orthe. Circa mid 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (12.5mm, 1.64 g, 9h). Head of Athena r. in Attic helmet with ear flaps raised / O above P sideways inwards, to r., I sideways above ʘ, to l. , trident pointing upwards in olive wreath tying down. This letter arrangement not found in the references consulted. VF, green patina; the rev. marginally off centre.

This and the following three coins belong to the smallest denomination of this type and are not listed as such in the reference literature

(499.2) THESSALY, Orthe. Circa mid 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (11mm, 1.14 g, 6h). Head of Athena r. in Attic helmet with ear flaps down / I over ʘ to r., O over P retrograde and upside down, trident pointing upwards in olive wreath tying down. This letter arrangement not found in the references consulted. Good Fine, green patina; both sides marginally off centre, the left side of the reverse slightly weakly struck.


(499.3) THESSALY, Orthe. Circa mid 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (12mm, 1.32 g, 7h). Head of Athena r. in Attic helmet with ear flaps down / ʘ over O to r., I over P upside down, to l, trident pointing upwards in olive wreath tying down. This letter arrangement not found in the references consulted. Good Fine, reddish brown patina with some obv. roughness, the rev. slightly off centre.


(499.4) THESSALY, Orthe. Circa mid 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (13mm, 1.40 g, 3h). Head of Athena r. in Attic helmet with ear flaps down / O above P on its side facing down, I on its side above ʘ, trident pointing upwards in olive wreath tying below. See CNG e-sale 258 (22 June 2011) 116 (same dies). Good Fine, pretty emerald green patina; a couple of marks on the helmet and some minor edge roughness.
