THESSALY, Pelinna. First quarter of the 4th century BC. Æ Obverse brockage of a Chalkous (14.5mm, 2.87 g). Thessalian horseman l., wearing helmet and chlamys, riding over and striking at fallen foe who is defending himself with his shield; border of dots / as the obverse but to r. and incuse. Near VF, brown patina, an attractive one-sided coin and an extremely rare curiosity that would be a valuable addition to any collection of coin errors.
Greek coin brockages, unlike those of Roman coins, are few and far between. This particular one is the nicest amongst the few this collector has seen during all the years he collected.
