Sold for $1800. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

THESSALY, Perrhaiboi. Late 2nd to early 1st century BC. AR Drachm (19mm, 3.96 g, 12h). Laureate head of Zeus to r., border of dots / ΠEPPAI l. up, BΩN r. down, Hera, diademed and draped, seated r. on backless throne, holding long sceptre with her r. and resting her l. on her knee. See Lanz 151 (30 June 2011) 378 and CNG 81 (20 May 2009) 426 (both from the same pair of dies as this coin). Near VF, lightly toned and imperceptibly double struck on the lower part of the obverse, rare.

These rare late Perrhaiboi drachms come in two different styles, this being the less elaborate one. Both types must have been struck at about the same time but this can only be confirmed when the issues are die-linked.
