THESSALY, Phalanna. Circa 322 BC. Æ Chalkous (13mm, 1.86 g, 8h). Head of Ares in crested helmet r., border of dots / ΦAΛANNAIΩN from l., above circular, bridled horse trotting to r. Papaevangelou-Genakos period 2, plate 1, 11; Rogers 457, fig. 251; see also Nomos 4, 1258. VF, brown patina, obv. off centre and partly softly struck.
These small chalkoi must have been an afterthought; they usually are very hurriedly struck and with random die alignments, contrary to the dichalka (see the previous lot) that are carefully struck and centred and come with adjusted dies.
