THESSALY, Phalanna. 4th century BC. Æ Trichalkon (21mm, 9.32 g, 4h). Youthful male head r., border of dots / [ΦA]-ΛANNAIΩN from l., upwards and to r., circular, head of nymph r., wearing triple pendant earring, the middle element longer than the other two, necklace of pearls with a pellet below the neckline and with her hair bound in a sakkos tied at the back. Papaevangelou-Genakos 5; Rogers 452. Near VF, has been stripped of its patina a long time ago, now toning; some surface roughness, especially on the rev. between 8 and 12 o’clock.

Papaevangelou-Genakos 5. Good Fine, dark green patina; scattered pitting on surfaces.

Youthful male head r., border of dots / ΦA-ΛANNAIΩN from above l., r. down circular, head of nymph r., wearing pearl necklace and triple pendant earring, the middle element longer than the other two, her hair bound in a sakkos tied at the back. Papaevangelou-Genakos 5; Rogers 452. Good Fine, very dark gray-brown, nearly black patina; flat struck area at the obverse’s high relief point and minor edge scuff between 8 and 9 o’clock.
