THESSALY, Pharkadon. Mid 5th century BC. AR Hemidrachm (15mm, 2.84 g, 9h). Thessalos to r., naked, petasos hanging from a cord around his neck,
behind a bull’s forepart springing r., holding a band with both hands around the animal’s forehead; border of dots / ΘA in the top l. corner, upside down, R right down sideways and inwards, forepart of bridled horse r., its rein trailing below; in l. foreground, trident downwards. See Nomos 4, 1266 and CNG 57 (4 April 2001) 295 (both from the same obv. die). VF, toned; minor roughness in the fields; die flaw just beginning at 9 o’clock on reverse.

SNG Soutzos 391 corr. (same dies) [the authors do not mention the upright trident on the rev. that is partly off flan on their coin]; see also Nomos 4, 1266 and CNG 57 (4 April 2001) 295 (both from the same obv. die). Near VF, lightly toned; obv. die in a later state than on the previous two coins.
