THESSALY, Pharsalos. Last quarter of the 5th century BC. AR Drachm (21mm, 5.80 g, 11h). Head of Athena r., wearing Attic helmet with plant decoration and an eagle’s wing, behind which snake coils forward / Φ-A to l. and r. above, Σ-P retrograde to l. and r. below, Thessalian cavalryman on horse prancing to l., wearing petasos, chlamys and short chiton, holding a lagobolon over his r. shoulder; all in shallow incuse square with rounded corners. Lavva 109 (V52/R61). VF, toned; obv. a little off centre; a vertical die flaw developing through the middle of the reverse.
