THESSALY, Pharsalos. Early to mid 4th century BC. AR Obol (11mm, 0.88 g, 12h). Head of Athena r., wearing crested Attic helmet with raised cheek flaps and adorned with scroll and olive twig, her hair freely escaping under the neck cover / Φ-A above to l. and r., Σ-P retrograde to l. and r. below, horse’s head and neck r. in shallow incuse square with rounded sides and corners. Lavva 136 c (V64/R77) (this coin). Near VF, nicely toned; surfaces a little grainy; well struck and perfectly centred; one of three known from this pair of dies; rare, especially in this condition.
