(666.1) THESSALY, Pharsalos. Early 4th century BC. Æ Dichalkon (16.5mm, 3.65 g, 10h). Head of Athena r., wearing crested Attic helmet with ear flap raised, decorated by Skylla r., raising one arm / Φ-A above to l. and r., Σ-P retrograde below, helmeted and armoured Thessalian rider on horse prancing r., brandishing his lagobolon above his head; to l., above and below the horse’s tail, Ω (?) and O. Lavva -, but type similar to group B.II.3. Near VF, dark green patina; fine linear stricking crack at obv. 5 o’clock.

The two letters on the rev., Ω (?) and O, could be nothing else but a signature but it is hard to think of a name starting with these two vowels and it is rather unlikely that two artists would cooperate in the engraving of a reverse die for a bronze coin.

(666.2) THESSALY, Pharsalos. Early 4th century BC. Æ Dichalkon (16mm, 3.33 g, 5h). Head of Athena l., wearing pearl necklace, a T-shaped triple drop earring and a crested Attic helmet with ear flap raised, decorated by Skylla; below neckline, IM / Φ-A below, P sideways and outwards in field r., Σ retrograde in field l, helmeted and armoured Thessalian rider on horse with beaded necklace prancing r., brandishing his lagobolon above his head. Lavva -; rev. die = R136, obv. die not in Lavva. VF, dark green patina; minor spots in the fields.
