(670.1) THESSALY, Pharsalos. 3rd quarter of the 4th century BC. AR Hemidrachm (15.5mm, 2.82 g, 7h). Head of Athena l., wearing pearl necklace, pendant earring and crested Attic helmet with raised cheek flaps, adorned with scroll, olive twigs and Skylla; A behind neck / Φ-A-P-ΣA from top r., down and circular, horse’s head and neck r. in flat, slightly concave field. Lavva 161 (V75/R93) (these dies). VF, lightly toned; some die rust on the obv., but an attractive, well centred and struck coin.

(670.2) THESSALY, Pharsalos. 3rd quarter of the 4th century BC. AR Obol (13mm, 0.83 g, 1h). Head of Athena l., wearing pendant earring and crested Attic helmet with raised cheek flaps, adorned with Skylla; A below neckline / Φ-A-PΣ-A from middle l., up r. and circular, horse’s head and neck r. in a slightly concave field. Lavva -, but see 162 a (2 pieces known) for the type and denomination; see also G. Hirsch 249 (7 February 2007) 1347 and Sotheby’s 1 December 1924, 93, both from the same pair of dies. Good Fine, lightly toned; fine scratches on the obverse and grainy surfaces, mostly on the reverse; very rare.
