(672.1) THESSALY, Pharsalos. 4th century BC. Æ Trichalkon (21mm, 8.47 g, 11h). Helmeted bust of Athena facing, wearing double strand pearl necklace and turned slightly to l., shield over her l. and spear over her r. shoulders / ΦA l. up, P r. down, Σ-A retrograde below, armoured Thessalian horseman wearing Boiotian helmet, short chiton and brandishing bifurcate flail above which bird r., riding r. on prancing horse decorated with a bead necklace having a central globular ornament. Lavva 349 (V179/R249) (these dies). Near VF, nice green patina; die flaw just beginning under the bust on the obv., the retrograde letter Σ poorly struck.


(672.2) THESSALY, Pharsalos. 4th century BC. Æ Trichalkon (21mm, 8.36 g, 6h). Helmeted bust of Athena facing, wearing plain necklace with a central medallion (here off flan) and turned slightly to l., shield over her l. and spear over her r. shoulders / Φ below A to l., ΣAP below circular to r., armoured Thessalian horseman wearing Boiotian helmet, short chiton and brandishing bifurcate flail, riding r. on prancing horse decorated with two plain necklaces and a beaded one between them. Lavva 357 a (V184/R257) (this coin, wrongly stated that it is in Istanbul). Near VF, mottled dark and light green patina with minor surface roughness.


(672.3) THESSALY, Pharsalos. 4th century BC. Æ Trichalkon (21mm, 7.92 g, 10h). Helmeted head of Athena facing, turned slightly to l., border of dots / Φ above A to l., P below horse’s belly, Σ below horse’s chest, A in field r., armoured Thessalian horseman wearing Boiotian helmet and loose chiton, brandishing flail, riding r. on prancing horse decorated with two beaded necklaces. Lavva -, but obv. die is V165, rev. die not in Lavva. Good Fine, glossy dark brown patina, the obverse slightly off centre.


(672.4) THESSALY, Pharsalos. 4th-3rd centuries BC. Æ Trichalkon (21.5mm, 9.76 g, 3h). Helmeted bust of Athena facing, turned slightly to r., wearing plain necklace with central medallion; in field r., traces of a retrograde K (?); border of dots / ΦA to l., upwards, P in field r., ΣA below r. retrograde, armoured Thessalian horseman wearing Boiotian helmet and short chiton, brandishing flail (here off flan), riding r. on prancing horse decorated with a beaded necklace; below, Corinthian helmet. Lavva -, but see group B.IV.1 and obv. die V149, cut by the same hand. Good Fine, dark green patina, both sides with minor surface pitting and marginally off centre.

Helmeted head of Athena facing, turned slightly to l., A and retrograde K to l. and r. of her neck; border of dots / ΦA l. upwards, P in field r., ΣA below r. retrograde, armoured Thessalian horseman wearing Boiotian helmet and short chiton, brandishing bifurcate flail, riding r. on prancing horse decorated with a beaded necklace. Lavva -, but obv. die is V156, rev. die not in Lavva. Near VF, dark green patina with lighter tan and red areas; rev. softly struck.
