THESSALY, Pharsalos. 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (17mm, 2.64 g, 11h). Helmeted head of Athena facing, turned slightly to l., A to l. of her neck; border of dots / Φ-A-PΣ from l., above and to r. circular, the Σ retrograde, armoured Thessalian horseman in short chiton and wearing Boiotian helmet above which bird perches r., brandishing bifurcate flail and riding r. on prancing horse decorated with a beaded necklace. Lavva 275 (V154/R190) (these dies). Near VF, dark green patina; the obverse slightly off centre.

THESSALY, Pharsalos. 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (15mm, 2.20 g, 6h). Helmeted head of Athena facing, slightly turned to r., wearing a pearl necklace, her neckline an open V / Φ-A-[P]-Σ from lower l., r. and up circular, the P and the Σ retrograde, Thessalian horseman prancing r., in chlamys and petasos with bird emblem on top. Lavva -, but see her 354 with obv. 3/4 l. instead of 3/4 r. Good Fine, dark green patina, reverse off centre; very rare type.
The reverse die of this coin is from the same hand that engraved the reverse die of lot 659 above.
