Head and neck of bull to r., turned to face the viewer, border of dots / Θ-E downwards at lower r., bridled horse’s head and neck r., all in incuse square. Liampi, Corpus, p. 108, 6 (V5/R3). (679.2) THESSALY, Pherai. Late 2nd quarter of the 5th century BC. AR Obol (12mm, 0.88 g, 3h). Head and neck of bull to r., turned to face the viewer, border of dots / ΘE from below r., upwards, bridled horse’s head and neck r., all in incuse square. Liampi -, but dies similar to pl. 5, 11. Fine, toned; both sides not perfectly centred, elongated flan.

(679.3) THESSALY, Pherai. Late 2nd quarter of the 5th century BC. AR Obol (10.5mm, 0.87 g, 5h). Head and neck of bull to l., turned to face the viewer, border of dots / below r., ΘE downwards, bridled horse’s head and neck r., all in incuse square. Liampi -, but obv. die similar to V2, rev. similar to R3. Good Fine, lightly toned, crystallized surfaces; obverse a little off centre.

One may see the circle of dots here as a linear border but closer observation indicates that when the die wears out the dots tend to join together, giving the impression of a continuous line.
