THESSALY, Pherai. 2nd half of the 5th century BC. AR Hemidrachm (17mm, 2.64 g, 9h). Thessalos to r., naked, his petasos on his back, restraining forepart of a bull leaping r. by holding a band with both hands under the horns of the animal; all within a border of dots / Θ-E from middle l., down and r., forepart of bridled horse l., above r., lion’s head fountain spout with water pouring from its mouth; all within incuse square. The exact type not found in the reference literature consulted. Good Fine, toned, a little unevenly; striking edge splits at 11 and 2 o’clock; rare.
