Sold for $1500. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

THESSALY, Skotussa. Early 4th century BC. Æ Chalkous (13mm, 3.31 g, 9h). Head of young Herakles of fine style l., wearing lion’s skin headdress / Σ-K-O from below, to r. and up, forepart of horse walking l., its head bent; all in shallow incuse circle. This combination of dies not found in the literature consulted. Near VF, dark green patina; well centred on a thick flan; an attractive coin.

This unpublished (?) type without the additional letters on its reverse seems to be the early issue; see lots 743.1 and 743.2 for the later versions.
