For some reason, probably having to do with the metal alloy, coins such as the this lot, are almost never found without corrosion or surface problems; these are the best this collector could obtain in a lifetime of searching.

THESSALY, Skotussa. Early to mid 4th century BC. Æ Dichalkon (15.5mm, 2.16 g, 12h). Wreathed head of young Dionysos r. / Σ-K-O retrograde in small, faint letters form r., up and l. down, bunch of grapes with two vine leaves, one on each side, hanging from vine branch. Rogers 389, fig. 203 corr. [erroneously attributed to Meliboia, different dies]; see also CNG 79 (17 September 2008) 191 (same dies). Good Fine, light green patina; the lower part of the rev. flat struck and with rough edges between 1 and 5 o’clock, small edge chip; a rare type.

Head of young Dionysos r., wreathed with ivy / Σ-K-[O] retrograde in small, faint letters form r., up and l. down, bunch of grapes with two vine leaves, one on each side, hanging from vine branch. Rogers 389, fig. 203 corr. [erroneously attributed to Meliboia, same dies]. Near VF, dark brown patina with some marks; the rev. slightly flat struck.

Rogers 540, fig. 298 var. [finer style and with different letter arrangement]. Fine, reddish brown patina; surfaces a little rough.
