THESSALY, Trikka. 2nd half of the 5th century BC. AR Hemiobol (9.5mm, 0.32 g, 4h). Head of Athena r. in crested Attic helmet / T-P-I from above l. to r. and down circular, forepart of horse r. in shallow incuse square. Unpublished and unknown,
unique (?). Good Fine, lightly toned and well centred; surfaces slightly rough.
This fraction was probably conceived as a complement to the earliest hemidrachms of the city but apparently was not struck in any quantities. The types were too similar to the Pharsalos fractions and the helmeted Athena was soon replaced by the youthful head of a local hero (see below lots 774 and 780).
