THESSALY, Trikka. 2nd half of the 5th century BC. AR Obol (11.5mm, 082 g, 10h). Free horse prancing l., below, VE, the E retrograde; border of dots / T-PIK-KA from above r., down and l. up, the middle part of the legend retrograde, Athena striding l., wearing crested helmet and long robes, brandishing long spear with her r. hand and holding shield with her l., all within a shallow incuse square. Traité IV, 550 and pl. CCXCI, 20. Near VF, toned; edge split from striking at 2 o’clock on reverse.
The obverse of this coin is struck from the same die as the obv. of lot 785.2 below, and this dates it towards the end of the 5th century.

Free horse standing r., border of dots / [T]PIK r. down, K at lower l. corner, A to l., upwards, Athena striding l., wearing crested helmet and long robes, brandishing long spear with her r. hand and holding shield with her l., all within a shallow incuse square with rounded edges. Traité IV, 551 and pl. CCXCII, 1. VF, very lightly toned; surfaces uniformly crystallized, reverse marginally off centre.
The obverse of this coin is struck from the same die as the obv. of lot 785.1 below, and this dates it towards the end of the 5th century.

Free horse prancing l., border of dots / T-P above, to l. and r., I-KK r. down, A below, the nymph Trikke bending r., in long robes, balancing hydria on her raised l. knee, under lion’s head fountain spout with water running from its mouth. SNG Fitzwilliam 2385 corr. [same dies but wrongly as Larissa]; SNG München 191. Good Fine, toned; rough surfaces, mostly on reverse.

SNG Berry 539 corr. [same rev. die but wrongly as Larissa]. Good Fine, lightly toned; corroded surfaces, mostly on reverse.

Free horse prancing l., border of dots / [T]-P-I l. up and circular to r., [KKA] r. down, Athena (?) in chiton with double fold around the waist, standing facing, half turned to l., holding in l. hand spear and with r. patera over altar. Traité IV, 549 and pl. CCXCI, 19; BMC p. 51, 10, pl. XI, 8. Good Fine, toned; some areas darker because of deposit leftovers; surfaces a little rough; very rare.
