THESSALY, Trikka. Last quarter of the 5th century BC. AR Hemidrachm (18mm, 2.86 g, 3h). Youthful hero, Thessalos, naked but for cloak and petasos over his shoulders, holding a band with both hands below the horns of the forepart of a bull leaping r., both his and the bull’s heads are turned to face the viewer; border of dots / T-PI-KK-AI-ΩN from top l., r. down and circular, forepart of horse prancing r., all in incuse square with slightly rounded edges and corners. This die combination not found in references consulted but see Nomos 4, 1353 for same types. VF, toned; an unusual rendering of the obverse scene and a particularly clear and sharp reverse; an elegant coin.
