(875.1) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid – late 1st century BC. AR Stater (21mm, 6.18 g, 12h). Italos and Diokles, magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; ITAΛOY to left / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; ΔIO-KΛHΣ above spear, NI in inner right field, star in outer right field. McClean 4791, pl. 178, 4 var. (position of star); SNG Lockett 1621 var. (same). VF, lightly toned.


(875.2) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid – late 1st century BC. AR Stater (23mm, 6.57 g, 12h). Italos and Diokles, magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; ITAΛOY to left / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩ[N], Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; ΔIO-KΛH[Σ] above spear, NI above grain ear in inner right field, star in outer right field. Klose pp. 340 and 346, 10 (this coin). VF, toned, reverse die break.

Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; [I]TAΛOΣ to left / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; ΔIO-KΛH[Σ] above spear, monogram in inner left field, grain ear in inner right field. McClean 4799-800. VF, lightly toned.

Head of Zeus right, wearing laurel wreath; [I]TAΛOΣ to left / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; ΔIO-KΛH[Σ] above spear, N in inner right field, ITAΛOΣ in exergue. McClean 4786 var. (spelling of obv. name, star in outer right field). Near VF, toned; struck from a worn obverse die.
