THESSALY, Thessalian League. Mid – late 1st century BC. AR Stater (21mm, 6.02 g, 11h). Dikaios and Onasimbrotos, magistrates. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; ΔI-KAIO[C] above spear, O-N/A/C-IM/B-P/P/OTOC (
sic) across central field and in exergue. McClean 4945, pl. 179, 16 corr. (same dies; letters in exergue). VF, toned. Struck from fresh dies.
It is uncertain whether the second ‘P’ in the name of Onasimbrotos is an engraver’s error, or a monogram of some sort (as speculated in McClean).
