(910.1) THESSALY, Thessalian League. Second half 2nd century BC. Æ Tetrachalkon (23mm, 11.01 g, 12h). Ortho..., magistrate. Head of Zeus right, wearing oak wreath; monogram to left (barely visible) / ΘEΣΣA/ΛΩN, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm; O-P/Θ-O across central fields. See Nomos 4, 1376 (same reverse die) for the only other known. Fine, slightly rough, pale green patina. Extremely rare, the second known (?).

It has not been possible to find an ancient name starting with OPΘO... and yet the reading is certain, especially on the Nomos coin.

Near VF, attractive green patina.

(monogram and its location--right field, not left). Good Fine, dark green patina.
