THESSALY, Thessalian League. Circa 196-27 BC. AR Stater (6.11 g, 1h). Nikokrates, Philoxenides, and Petraios, magistrates. Struck circa 44 BC. Head of Zeus right, wearing laurel wreath; NIKOKPATOYΣ behind / Athena Itonia advancing right; ΦIΛOΞ-ENIΔOY above spear, palm frond to outer right, [ΠET]PAIOΣ in exergue. McClean -; Moustaka 18; SNG Copenhagen 298; BCD Thessaly II 852. VF, minor area of flat strike, light scratch on obverse, die break on reverse. Scarce.

Nikokrates was thought to have been strategos shortly after 44 BC. If the Petraios on this issue is the same as the partisan of Caesar who was killed in 44 BC, then Nikokrates would have to have been strategos before that event.
