SASANIAN. Shapur I. 241-272 AD. AR Drachm (4.46 gm). MLWY= Marv mint. Crowned bust with earflap right; simplified globe of crown / Fire altar flaked by attendants; symbols: leaf cluster and caduceus(?). Göbl I/1 var. (unlisted symbol pairing); cf. MACW 817 (symbols). Toned, good VF. ($150)

Very distinctive but attractive (Eastern?) style. The earflap is more squared off than most issues, whereas the beard is more pointed and the crown is far less ornamented than usual. The attendants on reverse are distinctly different from each other, the attendant at right being Shapur I, and the left having a very simple crenelated crown. Interesting.
