ALCHON HUNS. Period of Chaos. Mihirakula (Jayatu) or successors. Circa 540-580 AD. Æ 22mm "Drachm" (5.30 gm). Kashmir region. Crowned head right with diadem and two trident patterns; Brahmi legend JAYATU / Indistinct pattern. Göbl Hunnen -, but cf. Em. 150 (crude imitation of), 152 (reverse legend), 138 (bust style prototype); Alram -; MACW -. Nice VF, black patina with earthen highlights, light cleaning marks. Extremely rare and apparently unpublished. ($300)
The stylistic links to the other types secure the time period of the Nezak incursion and either the regions Kashmir (by legend) or Ghanzi (by style). Although Em. 150 is attributed to Narana/Narendra, this coin suggests that it may have been in progress prior to the period of Mihirikula, or at least simultaneously.
