Temple of Diva Faustina

Diva Faustina Senior. Died AD 140/1. Æ Sestertius (33mm, 24.51 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck after circa AD 146. Veiled and draped bust right / Faustina, veiled, seated in hexastyle temple, holding small statue and scepter. RIC III 1115 (Pius). Fine, tan patina.

Following her consecration, a temple to Faustina (later rededicated to both Divus Pius and Diva Faustina) was begun on the Via Sacra. Remains of the temple are preserved today, having been incorporated into the construction of the church of San Lorenzo in Miranda.
