SICILY, Syracuse. Dionysios I. 405-367 BC. Dekadrachm (Silver, 42.05 g 12), unsigned but by Kimon, circa 405-400. Charioteer driving galloping quadriga to left, holding goad in his right hand and reins in his left; above, Nike flying right to crown the charioteer; in exergue, ΑΘΛΑ and panoply of arms (greaves, cuirass, shield and helmet).
Rev. [ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ] Head of Arethusa to left, wearing ampyx, hair net, pendant earring and pearl necklace; around, four dolphins: one swimming downwards before her nose, the others swimming to left. Dewing 871, Gulbenkian 305, Jongkees 9 /B/q), SNG ANS 358 (
all from the same dies). Rare and of lovely style. Obverse struck from a rusty die and with light cleaning marks; minor graffito on the obverse, and with traces of corrosion,
