Shim’on Tetrastyle facade of the Temple at Jerusalem, with the Ark of the Covenant within the central intercolumniation; above, star. Rev. For the freedom of Jerusalem Lulav, with ethrog to left. AJC 51. Hendin 711. Mildenberg 73 (O11/R42). TJC 267. An interesting piece, with considerable traces of overstriking. Minor striking cracks, otherwise, extremely fine.

This coin was overstruck on a tetradrachm of Vespasian from Antioch, dating from 69/70. On the present obverse there are considerable traces of Vespasian’s titles; on the reverse there are equally considerable traces of those of Titus, along with the remains of his profile portrait (as RPC II, 1940/1).
