Philippi, Macedonia. Divus Marcus Aurelius. 180†. Diassarion (Bronze, 24mm, 9.53 g 6), after c. 180. DIVO MAR ANTONINO Radiate head of Marcus Aurelius to right Rev. C P Roma standing left, holding spear in her left hand and phiale in her right, sacrificing over a low altar to the left; all with the gate of Philippi, formed of two high round towers connected by a curved wall behind with three square turrets. M. Amandry, Le monnayage de la Res Publica Coloniae Philippensium, Stephanos Numismatikos, p.27, 10a. Very rare (perhaps one of only 4 examples known). Attractive, slightly rough olive green patina. Nearly extremely fine.
