Bizya, Thrace. Septimius Severus. 193-211. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 29mm, 20.07 g 7), T. Statilius Barbarus, governor, 196-198. ΑΥ Κ Λ CΕΠ CΕΥΗΡΟC Π Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus to right. Rev. ΗΓΕ CΤΑΤΙ ΒΑΡΒΑΡΟΥ ΒΙΖΥΗΝΩΝ Apollo standing right, but looking left and with his left leg crossed over his right, holding a phiale in his right hand and, with his left, patting the head of a serpent, twisted around an omphalos on the right. Jurukova, Bizye, - (but see obverse A and the reverses listed as 56, 32 and 37). Very rare. With a dark green patina and a fascinating reverse type. Extremely fine.
