ΘΟΥΡΙΑΙΩΝ Athena standing right, wearing armor and long robes, holding Nike in her right hand and spear in her left; in field to left, monogram of ΛΑ. BCD Peloponnesos 828 (this coin). SNG Copenhagen 546. SNG Hunterian 381. Rare. Black patina. Minor flan faults, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the M Collection, and from the BCD Collection, LHS 96, 8 May 2006, 828, and apparently found in Syria.

The monogram on the reverse stands for Lacedaemonion and refers to the fact that Augustus gave this Messenian city to the Spartans in return for their support at Actium (the Messenians had supported Antony).
