Very Rare Nazarana Die

INDIA, Mughal Empire. Muhammad Shah. AH 1131-1161 / AD 1719-1748. Brass Die for AR Nazarana Rupee or Mohur Obverse. Dimensions of reverse die: die face 36 mm in diameter; die shank 34 mm at the base. Weight: 120.25 grams. Coin face is obverse of Naazarana rupee of Muhammad Shah, dated AH 1141 (7 August AD 1728 - 26 July AD 1729) and engraved with Persian couplet “sikka mubarak badshah ghazi Muhammad Shah 1141”; all within double linear and pelleted border. Back of die has recessed area in center for securing die to anvil. For examples of Nazarana coinage for this emperor, cf. KM B438.1 (rupee), KM B440.1 (mohur), and B438.1 (rupee). Die Good VF, brown and green patina, trace of exposed metal on back. Very rare.
