PLANTAGENET. John. 1199-1216. AR Penny (18mm, 1.41 g, 1h). Short Cross type, class Va2/Vb1 mule. Durham mint; Pieres, moneyer. Struck in the name and types of Henry II, 1205. ҺЄNRICVS RЄ X (S retrograde), crowned facing bust, holding scepter / + PIЄRЄS · ON · DVRЄ, voided cross, with four pellets in angles. SCBI 56 (Mass), 1298 (this coin); cf. North 969/970 (obv./rev.); SCBC 1350C. Good VF, toned, minor die crack on the obverse. Very rare muling.
