Commodus. AD 177-192. Æ Sestertius (31mm, 23.82 g, 6h). Rome mint. Struck AD 178. Laureate and cuirassed bust right / Libertas standing left, holding pileus and scepter. RIC III 1588-90 var. (bust type; Marcus Aurelius); Banti 198 (same obv. die). VF, dark grayish-green patina, minor metal flaws. Rare.


The rarest bust type known to Banti for this issue. He cited only one specimen for his no. 198, although his 199 (itself only known by two) is only differentiated by plates on the back of the cuirass.
